Longlist

The Longlist for this years Women’s Prize in Fiction (forever known in my mind as the Orange Prize) has been announced. This along with the Vida stats that came out recently, and you’ve got a perfect storm to drive folks to our new region- Contemporary Women Novelists of England.

The longlist and the Vida stats show two things:

1) women are writing diverse and incredible fiction
2) women are not getting a fair shake in the publishing world

What can we do to help? A consumer based solution is simple. Buy and read more books by women, or at least more than you currently are.

Do me a favor, look at the last 40 books you’ve read… go ahead, I’ll wait. Done? Shocking right? Didn’t expect the numbers to be so male dominant? Neither did I. My number was ugly. So lets do better.
