The Voyage Out Book Group meets at 5pm the last Sunday of every month at BookPeople in Austin. We read books in three-month cycles created from regions. Our newest region is Latin American Literature.
After a month of thought and research, we completed the three-book list for this region last weekend. It is as follows:
June 30th, Roberto Bolano’s, By Night in Chile
July 28th, Julio Cortazar’s, Hopscotch
August 25th, Mario Vargas Llosa’s, The Feast of the Goat
The list contains a bohemian cult icon in Bolano, the primary example to show that Modernism didn’t happen only in Europe with Hopscotch, and a Nobel Prize winner in Vargas Llosa. Wow.
I am easily excited about books, and I spend too much time thinking about this group, but this list excites me, and I can’t wait to spend too much time thinking about this region.
